My Lifelong Love Affair with Crystals
Before I explain why I love them, let me tell you a bit about crystals. So, what are Crystals? Crystals are minerals formed underground from three-dimensional repeating patterns of atoms. A crystal's appearance depends upon the natural characteristics of its type and the conditions in which it grows. Some take on strange shapes, some are very small and others grow very large, developing over thousands of years.
Crystals are structured in such a way that the frequencies they emit and their ability to store a tremendous amount of information makes them essential to modern technologies. This is why there are crystals in computers, TVs, cell phones, satellites, and so on.
People have been attracted to crystals since the dawn of time. Our ancestors intuitively knew that when worn, the energies of the stones would interact with the human electromagnetic field to bring about energetic changes.
My love for crystals started in early childhood. As with most children, it started with hunting for and keeping unique rocks. I would find them everywhere and picked the ones I was drawn too. As I grew older I began to put more thought into which crystals I should be drawn to with a misguided expectation that they would “magically” provide healing, prosperity, love and protection. I began to put pressure on myself to choose the right crystal that would transform my life. Of course it didn’t work. Over time I became frustrated and disconnected from my first childhood “friends". I mourned the loss of the simple childlike joy I felt when I would hold them.
My life has changed dramatically over the last 4 years. My family moved to Columbus, my oldest daughter went away to college and the most dramatic change was getting divorced after over 20 years of marriage. I was lost and trying to navigate my new reality. I was also trying to be strong for my 15 year old daughter who needed every ounce of my love and support. As time passed we settled in and found our footing. I began to reconnect with many of the things I enjoyed before I became a wife and mother. As I started to pay more attention to my crystals, I came to the realization that as an adult, I made my connection with them too complicated. I remembered how simple that childhood relationship with my unique rock friends was. I started simply picking a crystal up and holding it. Simply sharing space. Allowing whatever happened, or didn’t happen to just be. And guess what? I began to feel drawn to them again! I felt soothed. Rooted. At peace. I surround myself with crystals; in my home, my car, even in my bra lol! Best of all, I began sharing their energy in my treatment room during massages and facials.
So, if you are interested in crystals and want to learn how you can use them in your daily life, my advice is to visit your local crystal shop with an open heart and open mind. Pick any crystal up, close your eyes or allow your focus to soften. Breathe, always breathe. Don’t expect to feel a zing of energy, or really anything tangible. Just be. Take a few moments and notice how you feel. There is no wrong or right feeling. Don’t always expect to feel positive. Most of our greatest growth comes when we feel vulnerable, negative, and just plain yuck! Ask yourself if you feel different than you did before you picked up the crystal. If the answer is yes, then this might be a crystal you want to get to know.
Here are twelve of my favorite crystals and the intention they are known for:
You may notice a few of these in my treatment room, and I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about them.
