Earth Day began in 1970 and is now recognized every year on April 22. Depending on what is going on in the world or who you ask, it is either celebrated or protested. I think this year, we should celebrate, learn and grow.
First, let's celebrate that the Earth is healing right now. I'm not going to try quoting statistics because everything is changing daily, but we know that air pollution has gone down significantly because of Covid-19. If there is only one silver-lining to this pandemic, then this is certainly worth celebrating, am I right?
How can we take what we are celebrating and learn and grow this Earth Day? This can be a great time to reevaluate our daily lives and decide which aspects of modern life are absolutely necessary, and what positive changes could be possible if we change our habits on a global scale. Maybe today you can take some time and make a plan of how to re-enter your post-pandemic lifestyle in a positive way. Could one of these perhaps spark some inspiration?
One thing I'm learning, personally, from being at home right now is that it's a wonderful time to form new habits and teach my kids new habits too. Here are some easy & fun ideas that you can do with your family to make "Earth Day Every Day."
Connect with Nature- This is a wonderful time to get out and explore nature. As you go for a walk, start conversations about how plants grow. Talk about what plants need and what plants give back. It might even mean you'll need a good google refresher beforehand... but that just means we're all learning and growing from this!
Pick up Trash- Have you ever gotten the feeling of a "rush" after doing a good deed? That sensation is also know as "helpers high" and it's produced when your brain releases endorphins, the feel-good chemicals of the brain (and also benefits the skin!) So your esthetician recommends you head out and pick up some trash (and don't forget your SPF!)
Learn to Compost- This is a great time to start a new project like composting. I found this great book to read with my kids: Compost Stew: An A to Z Recipe for the Earth. (Purchase it used!) Check out your local area for composting programs- it's so easy!

Purchase Eminence Organic Skincare- Wait, what? How does purchasing skincare benefit the Earth? Through Eminence's Forests for the Future initiative, they plant a tree for every retail product sold, allowing us to support communities in developing countries. Eminence Organics is the first and only skin care company to plant over 14 million trees! With your help, Balance Beauty Spa has planted 2,599 trees!
All in all, my hope is that you are taking advantage of this time to not only better yourself, but better the world we live in. The feeling of "we're in this together" is powerful and I think we should use it as a launchpad to a better Earth.
